Alaska is in an economic recession and it could get worse because a proposed ballot measure could bring Alaska projects grinding to a halt, if it is approved in November. Road repairs, port improvements, the Alaska natural gas pipeline and wastewater treatment plants could face long delays, huge cost increases or worse, never happen. Even existing operations could be halted because of this ballot measure. Proponents claim it just overhauls fish habitat standards, but it goes far beyond that by creating burdensome regulations for virtually all projects in Alaska causing an economic slowdown, job losses, and less revenue to the state.
