The Government’s revealed
new medicinal cannabis regulations. It clears the way for a cannabis
licence to be issued to cultivate, research and supply the drug. Irena Smith spoke
to a Maori organisation that is all set up to grow
and supply medicinal cannabis. A medicine that will be able
to be grown under the Government’s
new regulations. New Zealand’s first licenced
medicinal cannabis company is ready. It’s hoped that the new scheme will help to ease the suffering
of people who rely on cannabis. However, there won’t be any
subsidies for cannabis medicines. At this time Ruatoria Bioscience
has a research licence. Everyone will be able to apply
for a commercial licence in May. There are over 100 applicants
applying for commercial licences. The regulations will come
into effect on April 1. Irena Smith, Te Karere.
